How will I know if I am eligible for Legal Aid?

First, you must complete an intake.  To do that, call the LASNEM office that serves the county you live in or the county where your legal issue is.

During an intake, you will be asked basic information about yourselves such as your name, date of birth, and contact information.  During the intake, we will also ask more personal information such as your Social Security number and income information.  This information is used to ensure eligibility and is a requirement of your federal funders.  LASNEM cannot assist you without a completed intake.

If you have barriers to doing a traditional phone intake, you may work with LASNEM staff and make an appointment to do a scheduled phone intake or you may come to our office for an in-person intake.

Once your intake is complete, a casehandler will review your intake and get back to you.  We generally say this process takes a couple of days.

LASNEM serves clients at or below 125% of the Federal Poverty Guideline.  If you are a Senior over 60 years old, there are no income or asset guidelines.  The Senior Citizens’ Law Project is funded partially by the Older Americans Act.
